WE STAND AGAINST RACISM
The SIU Graduate School stands against racism. We stand for diversity, inclusion, and especially, kindness.
To our Black students and Black colleagues and the entire Black community: we hear you, we stand with you, and we pledge to speak out for you and for all People of Color and those who are marginalized. Racism is everyone’s problem.
We stand with every ally of the Black community against systemic racism, racial injustice, senseless violence, and oppression. Your voices matter.
We stand with our friends around the globe to speak out against racism, to promote understanding, mutual respect, and empathy, and to create a world that is smarter, stronger, and kinder.
SIU President, Dr. Dan Mahony, asked everyone to join him in doing all of the good that we can do. In response, the Graduate School hereby pledges to continue to work toward our office being a safe, trusting place where diversity and inclusion are a continuous goal. We also pledge to bring unconscious bias awareness and education into our meetings and workshops.
We encourage students, faculty, and staff to give us feedback on how we can make this pledge a reality and thereby do what we can to build a better world for everyone.
